Design Dispatch is an exhibition at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi curated by Mobius Design and Abu Dhabi Culture.
The story behind this design is as follows: We met sometime in August of 2023 and were deep in conversation and research into different Arabic motifs and script. It dawned on us at that moment that we had been communicating and conducting our entire research in the English language. Not to mention that the brief provided for this exhibition was also in English. This is not uncommon in the region’s design community: we very often talk about our visual cultures in a foreign language instead of in Arabic. We rely on English resources for our research and end up translating our findings from English when presenting the work in Arabic.
